Treatment for acne can be done with
two types of the modern acne treatment and natural acne treatment, but here I
want to discuss about the modern methods of acne treatment first natural acne
treatment while I will explain in the next article.
Modern acne treatment is more likely to
lead to medical treatment. So, you will need to
follow the skin care program fastidiously. You will also need to consult an
expert dermatologist or plastic surgeon that is up to date and knows how to
treat acne. You will need prescription medications. You will also need to have
monthly exfoliation treatments by a medical aesthetician who is experienced in
acne control treatments. There are several ways in
acne control using modern skin care methods below:
1. Hormonal
acne treatment
How
do my hormones cause acne?
The process is actually a little more complex than
we’ll describe here, but it basically works like this. There are a group of
hormones called androgens (including testosterone). There is also a system in
the body, the endocrine system, that regulates all of the functions of the
body. It regulates these functions through hormones. The endocrine system has,
as part of it, a number of glands whose sole function is to produce these
hormones. When the endocrine system is imbalanced, it may produce too much or
not enough of any of these hormones. When the endocrine system produces too
many androgens, it causes an over-activity of the sebaceous glands which then
causes an over production of sebum – the oil on your skin that can then result
in clogged pores, bacteria and breakouts.
Hormonal acne usually presents as cysts–which are
those lovely, pus-filled, painful and inflamed sacks. Hormonal acne may also present in more mild
forms as comedones–those whitehead “bumps” that never break the surface–or even
in some cases as smaller lesions that are not quite as angry and painful as
full out cysts, and may appear more rash-like or just smaller than typical
acne.
What
should I look for in a hormonal acne treatment?
The first thing, of course, is to try to balance
your endocrine system! You’ll want to take an inclusive health look at your
diet, stress level, hydration patterns and exposure to pollution and toxins.
However, there are treatments, such as Murad’s Acne Complex, that can treat
your acne and leave you with clear, beautiful skin despite any hormonal
imbalances. So what do you need to look for in a hormonal acne treatment?
You need to look for a treatment that addresses both
the excess oil, or sebum, as well as the bacteria that is trapped in your pores
when it gets clogged. An acne treatment that simply dries out the oil and your
skin will never ultimately get rid of your hormonal acne because the bacteria
that ultimately causes the breakouts is still there.
Treating hormonal acne can be challenging, but it is
possible and we’ve seen the results to prove it. Look for a hormonal acne
treatment that addresses both the oil and the bacteria and make healthy
lifestyle choices, and you’ll see clear skin in no time!
2. Acne
laser treatment
Laser treatment or light therapy might be a part of
an acne treatment plan. Rarely can a laser or light treatment alone clear acne.
This type of treatment works best when used along with other acne treatment
such as medicine applied to the skin. Laser or light therapy may help when
other acne treatment has not worked. Some patients who did not see clearer skin
with strong acne medicine have seen results when a laser or light therapy was
added to their treatment plan. Results are unpredictable. Lasers and other
light treatments do not work for everyone. Right now, there is no way to know
who will see clearer skin and how much the skin will clear with a laser or
light therapy. To get the best results, you need a series of treatments. For
example, if blue light is an option, you may need 1 or 2 treatments per week
for a month. Each treatment usually lasts about 15 minutes.
Side effects are possible from lasers and other
light therapies. After treatment, some people have redness. Swelling also can
occur. These can last for a few hours or a few days. Side effects that are more
serious sometimes occur.
If you wish to get laser or light therapy for your
acne, consult a board-certified dermatologist. The American Academy of
Dermatology recommends that you discuss your options and expectations with a
board-certified dermatologist before undergoing any laser or other light
treatment. Experience is the best defense against serious side effects. You can
find a dermatologist who specializes in laser procedures at
3. Acne
cream
Acne creams are effective in getting rid of acne,
but most of them have the same drawback. It makes your skin very sensative to
sunlight. So when you use an acne control cream, use a good sunblock cream as
well. If you decided to get rid of your acne try some of the acne creams.
Instead of squeezing and pinching your pimples, apply an acne cream treatment
once a day for at least a week.
Topical Benzoyl Peroxide is an anti-bacterial agent
and a skin drying agent. It is marketed as Brevoxyl Cream or Brevoxyl wash. It
is the most commonly used product to control acne and is very effective.
Benzoyl Peroxide reduces oil and helps prevent infection. if you have ever
found an effective acne cream with no side effects, consider yourself very
lucky. Most people also experienced dryness or redness alongside their chosen
treatment. Sometimes skin can get incredibly itchy, start to peel, or breakouts
even more. In fact, some treatments out there like Accutane have a “purge”
stage where your pimples get a lot worse before they get better.
4. Vitamin
A (retinoic Acid) derivatives reduce skin oil production by inhibiting the
Sebaceous Gland cells. Products that are commonly used are Differin
(adapalene), Retin A, Tazorac, and Accutane (isotretinoin). These prescription
drugs are very effective but do have side effects like skin irritation dryness
and other potential problems, thus they must be used under the direction of a
physician.
5. Topical
Clindamycin is the most effective antibacterial agent for controlling skin
infection in my experience. It comes as a gel or cream or small wipes called
Clindets, which I use most frequently.
6. Microdermabrasion
is the most effective minimally invasive, no down time deep exfoliation method.
Microdermabrasion treatments are essential to remove debris, open pores and
prevent obstruction of the Sebaceous Glands and the development of a Comedone.
7. Oral
Antibiotics like Minocyclene and other Tetracycline derivatives are widely
prescribed for acne control. They can be effective, but is that it is very
hard, if not impossible, for an oral antibiotic to reach a skin abscess like a
Comedone. The skin abscess forms a thick wall of inflammation that is almost
impossible for the oral antibiotic in the bloodstream to penetrate.
